Video: Target Debuts An Image-recognition Shopping App

Target is introducing an app that lets users purchase items after scanning magazine ads with their smartphones. It's the latest offering from retailers looking to boost sales with the use of improving image-recognition technology. Starting this month, the app, called "In a Snap," will recognize images for Target's Room Essentials products in 10 home decor magazines including Architecture and Real Simple.

Video: Amazon Debuts Wallet App For Rewards And Gift Cards

Amazon's Fire Phone doesn't go on sale for a few more days but the company has already begun to quietly roll out new apps for its first smartphone. The company launched Amazon Wallet, its first mobile wallet application, on the Amazon Appstore and Google Play. While Amazon is calling it a wallet, you can't actually make purchases using the app. Instead, Amazon Wallet functions as a vault to store rewards and gift cards. Users enter their card information manually or by scanning them with their device's camera. Once stored, the app will display the card's balance and rewards information.

Video: Amazon Is Next Up To Try A Digital Wallet App

Amazon.com rolled out a digital wallet for smartphones just days before the release of its Fire, hinting at the retailer’s ambition to make the handset akin to a mobile cash register. The new app, Amazon Wallet, allows people to store loyalty cards or gift cards to use at checkout. Amazon Wallet will be preinstalled on the Fire smartphone, due out Friday, and can be downloaded from Google’s Play app store.
