Fire Season 2022: Agrology is Ready to Protect Your Vineyards

Agrology announces inventory of GroundTruth sensors, ready for immediate installation.

Sensors protect vineyards and workers by measuring VOCs, fine particles, and extreme weather events, and alert growers of issues in real time.

SONOMA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wildfires are annual events for grape growers and 2022 is proving to be another challenging year. That’s why Agrology, the leading Predictive Agriculture company, today announced that the company has an inventory of smoke taint sensors available to install immediately. Supply chain issues unfortunately impacted many agricultural technology suppliers. However, Agrology has a built-up inventory of sensors on hand to help growers through this immediate fire season.

“Over the past few growing seasons we saw growers severely impacted by smoke taint, so this year we took the initiative to build up inventory and get ahead of supply chain challenges,” said Adam Koeppel, CEO of Agrology. “We are committed to helping growers through this wildfire season and we can quickly get growers up and running.”

Agrology sensors measure Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs, the chemicals that cause smoke taint), fine particles and extreme weather events. Agrology sensors sit on the trellis, inside the canopy by the fruit. Agrology also pulls satellite imagery to visually verify smoke presence over regions, to further identify impacted vineyard blocks. Agrology’s mobile app alerts customers immediately when smoke is detected.

“Agrology has continued to provide me with the real-time data I need to take important actions in my vineyards,” said Riggs Lokka, Assistant Vineyard Manager at Emeritus Vineyards. “Using this technology, I am able to keep an eye on every inch of property, every day. This keeps our grapes and team safe throughout the fire season.”

Agrology installs each sensor node in less than ten minutes. Data is gathered in real time and users always have access to data through the Agrology app, even when their phone is off network in a field. A flexible subscription-based model empowers growers to take action without committing to expensive, long-term contracts. In addition to smoke taint, Agrology monitors drought and irrigation issues, pest and disease threats, extreme weather conditions, and more.

Each Agrology customer receives a custom smoke taint report at the end of the growing season, summarizing data on annual smoke exposure and risks, down to the vineyard block. The reporting allows Agrology customers to compare and contrast results from multiple years, giving them a clear picture of air quality and smoke issues in their vineyards and fields.

Current Agrology customers include Braga Fresh, The Duckhorn Portfolio, Boisset Collection, Dana Estates, Emeritus Vineyards, Jordan Vineyards and Winery, Lawrence Vineyards, Renteria Vineyard Management, Signorello Estate, and numerous specialty farms.
