Skype Will Make Itself Less Noisy Thanks To New, Smarter Chat Notifications

Skype this morning announced a change to the way its notifications will function, designed to keep the app from annoying you with beeps and buzzes across all your devices. These new smart notifications will instead only be sent to the device you’re actually using at the time, says the company, while your other devices, including PCs, tablets or smartphones, will remain silent. Chat history, meanwhile, the company says, will continue to sync across devices. Read More >>

Snapchat In Talks To Expand Services: WSJ

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, Snapchat Inc, developer of a mobile app that lets users send messages that disappear within seconds, might expand its service to videos, news articles and advertisements. The Journal reported, citing sources, the California-based company is in talks with advertisers and media companies about a service called Snapchat Discovery. The Journal quoted the sources as saying, Snapchat Discovery, rumored to debut in November, will show content and ads to Snapchat users. The Journal said, at least a dozen media companies have shown interest in providing content for Snapchat Discovery.

Google has just added a great new app for iOS users to download that will let you take cool panoramic 360-degree photos and even post them on Google Maps to boot. The new Photo Sphere Camera app gives iPhone users the same cool panoramic video feature that Google first brought to Android phones back in 2012. In addition to the aforementioned 360-degree panoramic shots, the app will also let iPhone users “add your photo spheres to Google Maps to help others explore the world and make more informed travel decisions,” which definitely sounds like a pretty cool way to share places you’ve been. The app is free to download and has been optimized for the iPhone 5’s size, although you can still use it on the iPhone 4S if you have iOS 7 installed onto the device.
