FireChat Messaging App Gains Users During Hong Kong Protests

A new mobile messaging app that enables users to communicate in the absence of cellular or Internet connections is seeing a surge in downloads among Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protesters. Micha Benoliel, co-founder and chief executive of San Francisco-based Open Garden, which developed the app said the free FireChat app, which launched in March, was downloaded 100,000 times in Hong Kong between Sunday morning and Monday morning. In the wake of #Bendgate, it's possible that Apple will replace your warped device, if it's under warranty. The Next Web reports that a bent phone can also be replaced if it passes a visual inspection by an in-store Apple Genius. When asked about if a bent iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus would qualify for replacement under warranty, an Apple support representative said "That is 100% up to the Genius you speak with at the store. There is a test called a Visual Mechanical Inspection that the device will have to pass. If it is within the guidelines, they will be able to cover it. If not, the replacement would be a paid one."
