Mobile, Social Media Don't Spell Privacy

It used to be said that don't write/send something you didn't want your grandma to read in the newspaper tomorrow. Now it's more like don't take a picture of yourself you don't want spread across the Web. And don't even think that the cute photo you snapped is safe, secure or is supposed to disappear from sight in a few seconds. There's a reason all of those free social media services you use have "you can't sue us for any reason" clauses buried down in the use agreement you didn't bother reading but said OK to. And speaking of lawsuits why is it lawyers scrounge the iNet/Web when they're working up divorce filings? Yep some idiot decided that he/she just had to tell others about the stuff they were doing. Computer vision startup Jumio, best known for its payment card and ID-scanning technologies which allow end users to hold up their cards to a mobile device’s camera to simplify the process of entering in that data on small screens, is rolling out a new product today designed to improve the mobile checkout experience for retailers. Called “BAM Checkout,” the product is the company’s response of sorts to the looming threat that is Apple Pay.

TechCrunch Tries Out Apple Pay In The Real World

Apple released iOS 8.1 today, and with it comes the ability to use Apple Pay on the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. TechCrunch decided to try it out by going to two nearby businesses that already accept Apple’s NFC-powered mobile payments: Walgreens and McDonald’s. Getting the 6 Plus ready for Apple Pay took less than a minute. The Passbook app opened, tapped the “Add” button, selected the Credit/Debit Card menu item introduced in iOs 8.1, and was presented with a form to enter the selected card’s number, expiration date, and security code. There was also an option to scan the details of the card in with the camera.
