Influence Marketing Isn't Easy, Isn't Fun; But Is Rewarding

Miles Weston

I have nothing against people getting paid to hawk a product. Everyone's got to make a living and saying it's the greatest thing since whatever seems harmless enough. But when it comes to buying something for our family I want a "real person's" inputs - friends, family, folks who posted online and media reviewers who do this stuff for a living because they both have street cred and have a reputation to maintain. Even if the reviewer was given the product and is still using it in his/her personal, work life...I'm impressed. Younger Crowd Impacts Success, Failure of Products

Wonder why regularly programmed TV faded so quickly in favor of OTT (Over The Top) viewing and why tablets and smartphones so quickly became the viewing/listening tools of choice? It was your kids (or your neighbor's kids. They fearlessly take on anything - including tricky devices - because they know how things "should be" and they make the hardware, software work for them not within the prescibed guidelines. If you look around at the things you use to stay connected you can sometimes recall there was a time they weren't there but not the Digital Natives. And they're using them in ways - exciting - ways you never thought of. And they've barely opened the door to tomorrow.

Wearable Tech Will Change Lots of Things but You

Oh thank Gawd Apple is going to release their watch onto the world so people don't have to keep complaining that the market won't be stable until they "arrive." Hate to say it but that won't be enough because too many people have too many ideas on what the wearables market should be and right now too many folks are shooting in the dark hoping they hit the bullseye. Most of the wearables right now are for show. There are a lot of nice ideas - cute even - but the market will really be established when they do things for you without being so obvious. Heck we're still looking for a platform that will let us exchange information with all of the other devices we're accumulating. Soon...soon.

Virtually There, Fly-bys, Friendly Bots, Something from Nothing

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is like fine dining. It is best to be tasted, eaten, consumed slowly but unfortunately that's impossible because it is like a limited time giant buffet. If you don't fill your plate with the best that is before you it's gone for another year and you missed out on something good...really good. Okay virtual reality, drones, robots and 3D printing isn't on everyone's diet but in small portions they're all pretty good and getting better. Of course if you're into these products you'd swear they are ready right now. Maybe.
