Although it’s easy to make online purchases or order food on your phone for delivery, the way you pay for a meal when you’re inside a restaurant has relatively stayed the same. Apple has sent out invites to a special event it’s holding on September 9, where the public will almost certainly get its first official look at the next iPhone. The invites follow a previous report from Re/code pegging Tuesday, September 9 as the date, and the event’s timing is consistent with the launch of the iPhone dating back to to the iPhone 4S, when Apple began releasing new versions of its smartphone in the fall instead of in the early summer.

Apple Sends Invites To A Sept. 9 Event

Apple emailed invites to a Sept. 9 event, confirming a date many had already circled on their calendars. The event, which comes about three months after Apple’s popular developers conference, is expected to be the launchpad for the company’s annual iPhone upgrade. Apple is expected to show two new smartphones with larger screen sizes — there are no names on these phones yet, even though they are routinely referred to as the iPhone 6. Chief Executive Tim Cook has said Apple would break into a new product category this year – its first since the iPad was introduced in 2010.
