By John Virata

Expanding on the success of its Wii platform, Nintendo introduced several new "experiences" at the 2009 E3 Expo in Los Angeles. While the mainstream media was reporting on Nintendo's Pulse sensing device, which Nintendo called a device that tells you "when to rest," more games have been added for the Wii, including a new Mario game called New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

This game enables multiple players to play in the same game in a cooperative or competitive environment. The game which has the same look as Super Mario from the 1980s, is expected to ship this 2009 holiday season. The lines to experience New Super Mario Bros. Wii was very impressive, and the game play was classic Mario all the way.

The company also showcased a MotionPlus accessory ($19.99, June 8 2009 release) for the Wii that senses subtle motion and can "locate where and how players hold the Wii Remote controller in 3D space"; Wii Sports Resort, (which works with the MotionPlus accessory), a collection of 12 resort-themed active games such as table tennis, sword play, archery, and canoeing. These games are slated for a July 26, 2009 release at an MSRP of $49.99.

For the Wii-exercisers, the company introduced Wii Fit Plus, which along with the Wii Fit Balance Board accessory, will enable Wii -exercisers to sweat it out while having fun in different ways. The company had multiple Balance Board stations setup with crowds of people lining up to get a chance to check out some of the new games, which includes 15 new balance games, some yoga and strength training games, a calorie burning counter, and the capability to create a custom Wii exercise routine.

Sony Computer Entertainment America unveiled a new Playstation portable called the PSP go, a new game machine that forgoes the standard UMD disc based media in favor of 16GB of Flash memory for storing games downloaded via the PlayStation network. The PSPgo offers several ways of acquiring games into the unit, including via download, via the PS3, and via Media Go, a software application for the PC that works with the PSPgo.
