Yamaha Quest For Music Education Online Contest Awards More Than $100,000 in Prizes to Eight Winning Schools

Yamaha today announced the winners of the Quest for Music Education online contest, which awarded a total value of more than $100,000 in band and orchestral instruments and equipment to music departments at eight winning schools across the United States.
The Quest for Music Education contest consisted of a series of online quests at usa.yamaha.com that covered a variety of topics, including Yamaha Artists, Yamaha Internships and Music Advocacy. Winning schools tallied the largest participation rate.
Yamaha awarded three First Place prizes of $20,000 in instruments, three Second Place prizes of $10,000 in instruments, and two Third Place prizes of $5,000 in instruments in three categories: elementary/middle schools, high schools and colleges/universities. Winning schools chose the instruments that made up their prize package to best serve their programs.
We experienced a wonderful participation rate for this contest and the winning schools were able to recruit students, parents, teachers and people in the community to stand up for music education, said Roger Eaton, director of marketing, Band & Orchestral Division, Yamaha Corporation of America.
When we first learned of the opportunity to enter this contest, our band community was quick to hop on board, said David Mobley, band director at Round Rock High School, Round Rock, Texas. We have a number of needs for instruments, so any chance to win some, especially from Yamaha, was a real motivator for us. We have selected a french horn and an oboe, both of which we had to borrow from other schools. Now our students have brand new, high quality instruments from Yamaha and we could not be happier.
