The battle for cerebral optimization takes place on 3 fronts. One, the ability to focus and concentrate on the task at hand avoiding the many distractions the world throws at us. Two, the energy and mental agility to be able to keep up with the information we need to take in to coexist and thrive in modern society. And three; the ability to remember and retain vital information that we find pertinent to our own personal lives and success.

The following specifics will focus on the latter optimizing our brains memory capacity through scientifically derived principles and practices.

The Essentials

There are three essentials that will most likely be regarded as obvious, but are so vital they warrant the emphasis and inclusion.

1.    Get proper amounts of sleep. Storing and consolidating of information for the long run primarily takes place during sleep.
2.    Exercise. Performing proper amounts of physical exercise can have a wealth of benefits to your brain and memory capabilities. When exercising, your brains oxygenation is improved, providing more nutrients and boosting neurotransmitter levels.
3.    Proper hydration. Our brain is made up of 95% water. Even being slightly dehydrated can have severe effects on both short and long term memory. Water is essential for the production of neurotransmitters the messenger cells responsible for data transmission and storage.

The Constant Battle

1.    Laugh it up. Laughing has many incredible health benefits for both the body and mind.
2.    Reduce Stress. Stress has many negative effects on the body with one being a reduction in neurological performance. When your body undergoes high levels of stress, new cell growth is inhibited by the hormone cortisol. Take breaks and enjoy life and your memory will reap the benefits.
3.    Stimulation. For most, stimulation in our complicated, information-overloaded world is not a problem. But if you are somehow isolated and removed from modern civilization, remember to find ways to exercise your brain. Crossword puzzles, Sudoku and even simply intelligent conversation will get your brain whipped into shape.

The Extra Credit

1. Visualization and Association. This one is for remembering specifics not a general memory enhancer. Images are a lot easier to remember than names and numbers, so, if possible, think of an image that reminds you of whatever you are trying to remember.
2. Focus. A lot of times we cant remember where we left our keys or cell phone. Why is this? It is not because you have a bad memory. It is simply because your mind was unfocused on the task at hand (setting down your belongings). If you want to remember something, focus on it. Even if you just mentally say to yourself, I am setting my phone down in the fridge, chances are you wont forget it (and probably will stop yourself altogether).
3. Nutrition. There are a lot of things you can eat to protect and preserve your memory. Blackberries, fish, spinach, eggs and even chocolate, all provide benefits to your mind and well-being. Additionally, there are a number of supplements, derived from herbs and rare ingredients that can have significantly beneficial effects, both in the long and short term. Some of these supplements include Phosphatidyl Serine, Huperzine A, and Vinpocetine.

One of the best memory supplement brands utilizing all 3 of these ingredients is Cerebral Success. Cerebral Success is optimized for boosting cerebral performance in the areas of memory, focus, and mental agility.
