live 8-3 msu Thu, 03 Aug 2017 23:07:25 +0000 live1 live 8-3 msu KFDX process..... and for what to expect.... we've provided a link inside this story at (--doug--)it's a project that many say is long overdue.... but now, the moffett library at midwestern state will soon have a nearly 8 million dollar facelift.(--gwyn--)katya guillaume got to check out the plans at today's meeting of the board of regents which approved the project.... and has more.(--katya--) i did! although the funds for the project to renovate this building were approved today, msu students will have to wait a little longer before they can see work being done in here. regents will still have to go through a design phase and i was told construction on this building could start at the begining of next summer.((katya guillaume reporting))clara latham has been at m.s.u. for the past 30 years.... and as the librarian, she says renovations are long over due....clara latham//universit y librarian "i'm really excited, that's one of the things i've worked for for a very long time with doctor riederman, doctor stuart, doctor rogers all wanted to do something with the library, we're finally going to be able to do that and so we're really excited to make it just more modern and accessible and an exciting fun place for the students to be." for several years -- upgrading moffett library has been a top priority for officials at msu but a lack of funding always held things back.... that is until now.....dr. suzanne shipley/ msu president"we were lucky in the last legislative session to receive tuition revenue bond funding, so with that money, we're building one new building, we're renovating several others."in the moffett library, doctor suzanne shipley says her plans are to make it more open and install windows overlooking taft boulevard so that those driving by can see inside... where there will be a lot more going on...clara latham//university librarian "students like to use the library as a place to congregate, work together, work on projects, practice their presentations so we want to have that kind of space available with smartboards, they can hook up their laptops and their computers on to some kind of network device" katya guillaume//reporter the narrow halls will soon be widened.... that will allow students in wheelchairs more access to find the materials they need. clara latham//university librarian "and also our bathroom hallways and the stalls in the bathroom are not ada compliant, they're not wide enough so the bathrooms a re going to be renovated and at the same time, we're getting a new elevator and as design plans for the new library get underway -- latham and her co-workers are trilled to see their plans finally come to fruition..(--katya--)doctor shipley also commented on the progress of the new football stadiumshe says she's hoping on having at least 70 percent of the funds for the project come directly from donors and so far -- out of the 7 donors they've asked -- they've gotten a yes.she says she feels positive about the project(--doug--)thank you katya (-- gwyn--)the board of regents also signed off on a contract for the new $9-point- 5 million health sciences building.doug// that facility, which should be completed in less than two years, will consolidate the nursing and health president dr. suzanne shipley says she hopes the building will run like a hospital with students from different disciplines working together and learning how to collaborate successfully.dr. shipley also says the new building will be part of msu's overall goal to improve recruitment numbers.she'd like to see enrollment grow by 2- thousand students by msu's 100th birthday in 2022. gwyn//dr. shipley also believes the 4-million dollar mass communication building will help increase enrollment as fact -- she hopes the number of mass comm majors will double in the next two, the board of regents toured the new facility.dr. shipley says the new building is part of the overall plan for the university to became a destination residential campus.dr. suzanne shipley/ msu president --- all of our renovations are focus on student learning. so in the mass comm building, they talked about incidental spaces where students gather, socialize and they learn incidentally. they learn from each other. they learn from that professor who walks by. and it's more of a professional atmosphere that way. it's like the workplace. --- gwyn//the board also saw the renovation done to the burns chapel.dr. shipley says the upgrades to the chapel will make it a multi-purpose facility... a place for performances, student presentations, classes and worship for all faiths.the remodel of the chapel totaled 100-thousand dollars, but it was paid for by a private donation. (--doug--)three students out of every five in the wichita falls isd are considered economically disadvantaged.... gwyn/that's why the united way and wal-mart are filling the bus with supplies-- so all children are ready for back to school in just a couple weeks. we'll show you how easy it is to donate up ahead!!
